Stitch Buffalo

NEEDED: Quilting fabric, felt, wool, silk, or linen fabrics, thread, beads, embroidery floss, hoops, scissors, yarn & other sewing & knitting tools. See website for full list.

Stitch Buffalo’s mission is to advance social justice for refugee women in Buffalo, NY, by creating opportunities for cross-cultural exchange & economic empowerment through textile arts. They have grown into a thriving community of over 55 women from Bhutan, Burma, Nepal, Thailand & Angola. Each week these women come together to form a Refugee Women’s Workshop, sewing handcrafted goods for sale within the community.

At Second Stitch pop-up events, they sell yarn, fabric & other materials that cannot be used directly in the Refugee Women’s Workshop. These items are offered to the community at huge discounts—typically 75% OFF retail prices. They strive to keep these useful materials out of landfills & in the hands of local artists who can bring them to life in their own creations. Second Stitch pop-up sales happen every few months, & all proceeds go directly to sustaining Stitch Buffalo programming.
